3 years ago today, Mer and I said ‘I do’!
We talk a lot about weddings, but not often about marriage. But let me tell you, marriage is the best gift of all!
Learning To Love & Serve
It’s interesting to look back on when we were single. It was easier to get away with selfish tendencies or sweep our problems under the rug. Marriage has allowed us to practice setting aside our personal preferences and seeking to serve the other. It sounds pretty easy in writing, but some days, because we’re human and sinful, it’s not.
Our first dance song at our reception was, “I Have And I Always Will” by Dave Barnes. The chorus reads, “In your darkest hours, will I love you still? I have and I always will.”
There are not many relationships like marriage where you get to fully know another person. (Sometimes even better than you know yourself!) It’s easy to love during the happy moments, but the the true test comes during the hard ones.
Choosing to put the other’s preferences before your own might not feel good in the moment, but it creates a bond that cannot be broken. Through that testing and refining, we’re finding better, more Christ-like versions of ourselves on the other side.
The world tells you to put yourself first, but God says to “put others first” and “value others above yourself.” Heeding those words is what has bound our hearts together and brought us the most joy over the past 3 years!
Marriage & Business
In the past year we took a huge step of faith together, and became business partners. And it’s been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Working together towards the same goal and on the same team has been such a blessing.
Making decisions together about our future and business is so fun. We truly have each others’ backs and get to pour our heart and soul into making beautiful memories for our clients. Marriage is the sweetest partnership, and being business partners is just icing on the cake!
Having met, fallen in love, been engaged, planned a wedding and been married it’s easier to truly put ourselves in our couples’ shoes. We love getting to love, encourage and serve our couples as they walk the same path we did 3 years ago!
Here’s To Many More!
So here’s to all the adventure this next year of marriage has to bring. I wouldn’t rather do it with anyone else!
To celebrate our anniversary, we asked Ryan & Alyssa Photography if they would do anniversary photo session! It was the perfect day! They are incredibly talented and we can’t thank them enough for capturing these moments in time that we will cherish and look back on forever.
